We have made a special set of test files to check whether the MIME is set properly for Flash.
The files are very small to make testing very quick and easy.
When both pictures on the Test files display the same, then the MIME is set.
Using the test files are easier for most people because the test provides a quick definite answer as to whether or not the MIME is set properly.
1) Download the MIME test file set, unzip and upload them to your server.
2) Contact your ISP or other person that is responsible for your server.
Give them the link to Setting the MIME for Flash and the URL to the test files that you have uploaded to your server.
3) If you need most people to be able to see your site before the MIME is set then add
Type=application/x-shockwave-flash to the Embed. When you do this most people will be able to see the site but some will have symptoms that can include blank pictures and crashing the browsers.
Note, the type tag is added automatically with Aftershock.
Be polite and patient with your ISP, 2 weeks is not an uncommon amount of time to get a new MIME setting entered and operating. Setting up MIME is a simple and normal procedure that shouldn't take more than 5 minutes if they know how (plus some wait time til the next reboot). However, many Webmasters have never had to set a MIME because of the constant upgrade of server software which includes a set of Standard MIME settings (which don't usually include Flash yet). Also little tasks like this are often passed off to assistants.
